New Delhi, Aug 20 (PTI) Individuals, organisations, and zoos must complete the registration of exotic species, listed under Schedule IV of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, in their possession by August 28, the Union Environment Ministry announced on Tuesday.
The ministry had notified the Living Animal Species (Reporting and Registration) Rules, 2024 on February 28.
According to these rules, those who have living specimens of species listed in Schedule IV of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, in their possession were required to report the details and submit an application for registration electronically through the PARIVESH 2.0 portal to the chief wildlife warden of the concerned state within six months of the gazette notification or within 30 days of acquiring such animal species.
"The six-month period would expire on August 28. Therefore, all the concerned persons are required to take expeditious action to report such possessions to the chief wildlife warden concerned through PARIVESH 2.0 portal to avoid any penal actions for non-compliance," the ministry said in a statement.
Species that are not endangered are included under Schedule III and IV of the Wildlife Protection Act. Schedule IV species include swans, flamingo, hares, vultures, falcons, kingfishers, porcupine, etc. PTI GVS TIR TIR
